We continue to study this royal Psalm of David. Here, David expresses the ground of his confidence. While others may trust in the strength of armies, his boast is in the Lord. 
 
We are encouraged to understand that we may have the same confidence before God as David - our Savior has promised His children that He will hear and answer their prayers if they will pray in His Name and according to His will.

061203pm - We Will Boast in God - Psalm 20:6-9

Again, Paul encourages us to equip ourselves for sowing to the Spirit rather than the flesh. We are to share in all good things with those who teach us from God's Word - in other words we are to commune with them in the good things of the Scriptures. We are also to make the most of every opportunity that we have to do good - to all people but especially to those in the church. By living in this way, we are sowing to the Spirit and we will grow as believers, storing up treasure in heaven.

Paul continues in his admonition of the Galatians, reminding them of how they started well but are now 'falling away'. We are warned to avoid false teaching from any source, for it can destroy us and others surrounding us, though we remember that a true believer cannot permanently fall away. We are given the following reasons for avoiding false teachers and their doctrine: 
 
 
* It side-tracks us in our Christian walk. 
* The teaching does not come from Christ. 
* The teaching may concern an apparently small matter, but like cancer it may spread and kill the whole body. 
* Those who follow the teachers will face the same punishment as the teachers themselves. 
* Such teachers are either deceivers or are deluded.

061008am - Beware of Ungodly Influences - Galatians 5:7-12

Paul tells the Galatians that by turning back to the Law for a salvation by works, they would be cutting themselves off from Christ. To do this is effectively to fall from Grace, but we are reminded that this does not mean a true believer can lose his salvation - rather that one who falls away like this was never a true believer in the first place. The grace to trust in Jesus comes only from the Holy Spirit and this is the source of true salvation. The evidence of this saving faith is the fruit of the Holy Spirit in this life - the foremost of which is love.

We continue to analyse Paul's discussion with the Galatians by looking at the flip-side of this morning's message. Paul states that believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, who are the children of the free woman under the allegory he is expounding, are 
 
 
* Not children born of flesh but of the Spirit 
* Not slaves to law but free through the Gospel 
* Not persecutors of the truth but persecuted for their beliefs, which is a sign of blessing 
* Not heirs of the Lake of Fire but heirs of the Kingdom of God 
 
 
We are encouraged again to stay close to Christ and not to depend in the slightest degree on our own efforts or merits.

Paul continues his caution against trying to add our works onto Christ's for our salvation, this time using an allegory from the Old Testament concerning Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar. First, we consider this use of allegory. We see that the Old Testament does indeed contain types and shadows but we hear some notes of caution against trying to make every Old Testament passage in some way typological or allegorical. We then turn our attention to the condition of the Jews and the Judaizers, as Paul likens them to the children of Hagar the bondwoman in the Old Testament. We see: 
 
 
* They are operating according to a principle of the flesh, not the Spirit 
* They are in slavery to their system of works-based salvation 
* They persecute the true believers, who are children of the promise 
* They have no inheritance in the Kingdom of Heaven 
 
We are urged to make sure we are not children of the bondwoman ourselves, or in danger of being led astray by their teaching.
