Remember the miracle...a bigger one is coming 
*because of the nature of Jeremiahs calling and the perils he would face, Jeremiah is told to not marry and not to have children (v2-3) He also faces knowing he will not be liked and not mourned for when he dies 
*the Lord tells him to remember His lovingkindness and goes on to teach that a greater miracle than the parting of the Red Sea will come in the restoration of the scattered 10 tribes 
*comparing the gathering to fishing and hunting, the Lord says He will send fishers and hunters to find and gather from all places. Fishers and Hunters being missionaries, including us...anyone who is on the Lord's errand is fishing and finding and gathering scattered Israel. How are you fishing and gathering?

*note that He dresses for this task, preparing Himself to do the task needed. He asks us through scripture and our prophets/leaders to put on the whole armour of God...isn't nice to know He leads by example and takes His role with great reverence...indeed our Hero!

*still no answer is found and Elihu speaks up and teaches Job and us how to minister, how to support and that God is greater than man 
* Teaches that we might not have answers, yet we can find them together. Don't know how to get there yet God will prevail and deliver...trust God

Does it make a difference to you to know that our leadership, our teachers etc are called of God? The people begged Samuel for a King to lead them. Samuel tried so hard to convince them of the down side of Kings and told them that the Lord leads you...yet to no avail. So God tells Samuel, sure...call a king, let him be called of God. This gives said king great potential for success if he then keeps the Spirit with him ie obey God and keep their covenants. Yet, once in a kings role this becomes difficult for many. Temptations are plentiful and good men of God fall,, then fail in their calling. What can you do to ensure you do not fall and fail at keeping the Spirit with you? how do you Honour that call from God?

Eli mistook Hannah for drunk! I guess if anyone observed some of my pleadings to the Lord they might assume the same thing! However, in turning to the Lord in heartfelt complete supplication Hannah's prayers are heard, they also get answered. The lesson here is that in v18 knowing she had been heard that her countenance was no longer sad, not just her face but her spirit. Answers take time, yet with Christ and knowing we are heard we can find peace and joy in the midst of sorrow.

The Lord guided Ruth to the field that belonged to Boaz. Boaz was guided to see Ruth gleaning. It was divine design. In a times where Ruth and Naomi were simply trying to survive the Lord enters and blesses their effort because they trusted Him. A story of kindness and redemption, Boaz recognises Ruth's faith and steadfastness and in v12 reminds her of Christ's promise of a full reward for those that always trust the Lord.

The scarlet thread here reminds us of the red blood on door frames during the Passover - a symbol also of Christ saving us. Rahab is an ancestor, a grandmother in Christ's ancestral line. we do not know why she was called harlot, yet her example shows us there is room for all of us at Jesus' table no matter what our past is. Redemption, forgiveness and adoption into the House of Israel are very real things. As you partake of the Sacrament remember scarlet thread, blood - the saving, healing and protection that Jesus Christ's Atonement gives us.
