Song # 1959.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Mark we read in chapter 8 that Jesus asks His disciples who do the people say He is. 
Jesus and His disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way Jesus asked His disciples “Who do people say I am?” (Mark 8:27). They replied “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and still others, one of the prophets” (Mark 8:28). “But what about you?” Jesus asked them. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered “You are the Christ” (Mark 8:29). Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about Him (Mark 8:30). 
Thought for today: Jesus asks us to join Him for life. 
Thought for the future: God made your life for living, so live your life for God. Where will you spend your eternity?

Song # 1955.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in the Book of Mark that Jesus walked across the water to the middle of the lake to join His disciples in the boat in which they were straining at the oars because the wind was against them. 
When evening came, the disciples were in their boat in the middle of the lake, straining at the oars, because the wind was against them (Mark 6:47). About the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake (Mark 6:48). When the disciples saw Jesus walking on the lake, they thought He was a ghost. They cried out (Mark 6:49), because they all saw Him and were terrified. Immediately Jesus spoke to them and said “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid” (Mark 6:50). Then Jesus climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed (Mark 6:51). When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret and anchored there (Mark 6:53). As soon as they got out of the boat, people recognized Jesus (Mark 6:54). They ran throughout that whole region and carried the sick on mats to wherever they heard He was (Mark 6:55). And wherever He went - into villages, towns or countryside - they placed the sick in market-places. They begged Jesus to let them touch even the edge of His cloak, and all who touched Him were healed (Mark 6:56). 
Thought for today: God showed His love for us when Jesus came as a man.

“There was a landowner who planted a vineyard and rented his vineyard to some farmers and went away on a journey” (Matthew 21:33). “When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit” (Matthew 21:34). “The tenants seized his servants, they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third” (Matthew 21:35). 
Then he sent other servants to them, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them in the same way” (Matthew 21:36). “Last of all, he sent his son to them ‘They will respect my son’ he said” (Matthew 21:37). “But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance’” (Matthew 21:38). “So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him” (Matthew 21:39). When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus’ parables, they knew He was talking about them (Matthew 21:45). #1948.1- The Two Sons - (Matthew 21:28-32)

Another parable that Jesus told to His disciples saying that it doesn’t matter how long, or how short a time you have followed Jesus, all those who follow Him will receive their reward in heaven. So those who have recently given their heart to Jesus will also enter heaven, in the same way as those who have been following Jesus for many years. 
Jesus told them “The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire men to work in his vineyard” (Matthew 20:1). “He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard” (Matthew 20:2). “About the third hour he went out again and hired more men” (Matthew 20:3). “He went out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour and did the same thing” (Matthew 20:5). “About the eleventh hour he went out again, and hired more men he found standing around” (Matthew 20:6). “When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last hired and going onto the first’” (Matthew 20:8). “The workers who were hired about the eleventh hour came and each received a denarius” (Matthew 20:9). “So when those who were hired first came, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius” (Matthew 20:10). “When they received it they began to grumble against the landowner” (Matthew 20:11). “‘These men who were hired last worked only one hour’ they said ‘and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day’” (Matthew 20:12). “The landowner answered them ‘Friend, I am not being unfair to you. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius?’” (Matthew 20:13). “‘Take your pay and go. I want to give the man who was hired last the same as I gave you’” (Matthew 20:14). “‘Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’” (Matthew 20:15).

#1947.1- The Vineyard - (Matthew 20:1-15)

Song # 1934.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in Matthew chapter 27 that the chief priests and the Pharisees wanted to ensure the tomb where the body of Jesus was placed was secure, so they asked Pilate for a guard and they had a seal placed on the stone. 
Joseph from Arimathea took the body of Jesus and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth (Matthew 27:59), and placed it in his own new tomb that had been cut out of rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away (Matthew 27:60). Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb (Matthew 27:61). The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate (Matthew 27:62). “Sir” they said “we remember that while Jesus was still alive, that deceiver said ‘After three days I will rise again’” (Matthew 27:63). “So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, His disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that He has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first” (Matthew 27:64). “Take a guard” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how” (Matthew 27:65). So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting a guard (Matthew 27:66). 
Thought for today: Christ’s death gives us courage for today, and hope for tomorrow.

Then Jesus came to them and said “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” (Matthew 28:18). “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19), “and teaching them everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).

#1931.1- The Great Commission - (Matthew 28:16-20)

Song # 1930.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Matthew we read in chapter 28 about the soldiers who were guarding the tomb where Jesus was buried. But on the third day, they found the tomb was empty and went to the city to report the matter to the chief priests. 
Some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened at the tomb (Matthew 28:11). When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money (Matthew 28:12), telling them “You are to say ‘His disciples came during the night and stole Him away while we were asleep’” (Matthew 28:13). “If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble” (Matthew 28:14). So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day (Matthew 28:15). 
Thought for today: face your sins, repent and put them behind you. 
Thought for the future: now is the time to invest in heaven. Where will you spend your eternity?

And later Jesus tells them “You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those who are trying to” (Matthew 23:13). “You devour widow’s houses and for a show make lengthy prayers” (Matthew 23:14). “You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are” (Matthew 23:15). “Woe to you, blind guides! You say ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath’” (Matthew 23:16). “You blind fools! Which is greater, the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred?” (Matthew 23:17). “You also say ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing, but if anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath’” (Matthew 23:18). “You blind men! Which is greater, the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred?” (Matthew 23:19). “Therefore, he who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it” (Matthew 23:20). “And he who swears by the temple swears by it and by the One who dwells in it” (Matthew 23:21). “And he who swears by heaven swears by God’s throne and by the One who sits on it” (Matthew 23:22). 
Thought for today: thank God for what you have, trust God for what you need. 
Thought for the future: no-one is more secure than those in God’s hands. Where will you spend your eternity?

#1929.1- By God's Throne -  (Matthew 23:13-22)

We read in the Book of Matthew that Jesus tells some Pharisees and teachers of the law, that, like Jonah who was in a huge fish for three days and three nights, the Son of Man will spend three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (In the Book of Jonah we read that Jonah was swallowed up by a big fish (some suggest a whale) and released three days later after praying to the Lord. Some Pharisees and teachers of the law said to Jesus “Teacher, we want to see a miraculous sign from you” (Matthew 12:38). Jesus answered “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a miraculous sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah” (Matthew 12:39). “For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth” (Matthew 12:40). “The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgement with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now One greater than Jonah is here” (Matthew 12:41). 
Thought for today: when you follow Jesus you’re on the righteous path. 
Thought for the future: Jesus knows the way to heaven, so follow Him for life. Where will you spend your eternity?

The Lord made Job prosperous and gave him twice as much as he had before (Job 42:10). All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate with him in his house. They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble the Lord had brought upon him, and each one gave Job a piece of silver and a gold ring (Job 42:11). The Lord blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the first. Job had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys (Job 42:12). And he also had seven sons and three daughters (Job 42:13). The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah and the third Keren-Happuch (Job 42:14). Nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job’s daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance along with their brothers (Job 42:15). After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years. He saw his children and their children to the fourth generation (Job 42:16). And so he died, old and full of years (Job 42:17). 
Thought for today: whatever may happen in your life, continue to trust in God.

#1924.1- Job Prospers - (Job 42:10-17)

Song # 1921.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Acts we read in chapter 16 that Paul had a vision and concluded that God wanted him to go to Philippi to preach the Gospel. 
During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him “Come over to Macedonia and help us” (Acts 16:9). After Paul had seen the vision he concluded that God had called him to preach the Gospel to them (Acts 16:10). From Troas, Paul, and his companions put out to sea and sailed to Samothrace, and the next day onto Neapolis (Acts 16:11). From there they travelled to Philippi, a Roman colony and the leading city of that district of Macedonia, where they stayed for several days (Acts 16:12). On the Sabbath they went outside the city gate to the river, where they expected to find a place of prayer. They sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there (Acts 16:13). One of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshipper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message (Acts 16:14). When she and the members of her household were baptised, she invited Paul and his companions to her home. “If you consider me a believer in the Lord” she said “come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded them to do so (Acts 16:15). 
Thought for today: your love for God can change the world, but don’t let the world change your love for God.

Song # 1921.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Acts we read in chapter 16 that Paul had a vision and concluded that God wanted him to go to Philippi to preach the Gospel.
During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him “Come over to Macedonia and help us” (Acts 16:9). After Paul had seen the vision he concluded that God had called him to preach the Gospel to them (Acts 16:10). From Troas, Paul, and his companions put out to sea and sailed to Samothrace, and the next day onto Neapolis (Acts 16:11). From there they travelled to Philippi, a Roman colony and the leading city of that district of Macedonia, where they stayed for several days (Acts 16:12). On the Sabbath they went outside the city gate to the river, where they expected to find a place of prayer. They sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there (Acts 16:13). Song # 1916.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Luke we read in chapter 23 that after Jesus was crucified on the cross, Joseph, an upright man from Arimathea went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 
There was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man (Luke 23:50), who had not consented to the decision and action of the Council. Joseph came from the Judean town of Arimathea and he was waiting for the kingdom of God (Luke 23:51). Going to Pilate, Joseph asked for the body of Jesus (Luke 23:52). Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no-one had yet been placed (Luke 23:53). It was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was about to begin (Luke 23:54). The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how the body of Jesus was placed within it (Luke 23:55). Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes (Luke 23:56). 
Thought for today: God showed His love for us when He came to earth as a man. 
Thought for the future: it’s not what you know that will get you into heaven, but who you know. Where will you spend your eternity?

#1914.1- The Widow's Gift - (Luke 20:46 to 21:4)

Song # 1911.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in Matthew chapter 26 that Jesus was arrested and taken to the Sanhedrin where He faced Caiaphas the high priest and the whole Sanhedrin. 
(Sanhedrin: Supreme Council and Court in ancient Jerusalem). 
Those who had arrested Jesus took Him to Caiaphas, the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled (Matthew 26:57). But Peter followed Him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome (Matthew 26:58). The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put Him to death (Matthew 26:59). But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally two came forward (Matthew 26:60), and declared “This fellow said ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days’” (Matthew 26:61). Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” (Matthew 26:62). But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to Him “I charge you under oath by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God” (Matthew 26:63). “Yes, it is as you say” Jesus replied, “But I say to all of you, in the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven” (Matthew 26:64). 
Thought for today: plan for your eternal future today - follow Jesus. 
Thought for the future: a Christian’s inheritance is ‘for ever’ guaranteed. Where will you spend your eternity?

Jesus replied “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37). “This is the first and greatest commandment” (Matthew 22:38). “And the second is like this ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’” (Matthew 22:39). “All the Law and the prophets hang on these two commandments” (Matthew 22:40). Jesus said to the Pharisees “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls Him ‘Lord’? Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. The blind and the lame came to Jesus at the temple, and He healed them (Matthew 21:14). But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things He did and the children shouting in the temple area “Hosanna to the Son of David” they were indignant (Matthew 21:15). “Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked Jesus. “Yes” Jesus replied “have you never read ‘From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise?’” (Matthew 21:16). And Jesus left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where He spent the night (Matthew 21:17).

The Sadducees were a small, conservative and powerful group of Jews in New Testament times. They were closely associated with the high priests and accepted only the first five books of the Hebrew Scriptures they called the Torah, as their Bible. They also did not believe in life after death. 
The Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus with a question (Matthew 22:23). “Teacher” they said “Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and have children for him” (Matthew 22:24). “Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother” (Matthew 22:25). “The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh” (Matthew 22:26). “Finally, the woman died” (Matthew 22:27). “Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?” (Matthew 22:28). Jesus replied “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God” (Matthew 22:29). “At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage, they will be like the Angels in heaven” (Matthew 22:30). “But at the resurrection of the dead - have you not read what God said to you” (Matthew 22:31), “‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?’ He is not the God of the dead but of the living” (Matthew 22:32). 
Thought for today: there’s only one way to heaven, and that is through Jesus. 
Thought for the future: no-one is more secure than those in God’s hands. Where will you spend your eternity?

The Holy Bible tells us that in the very beginning, God created man and woman, so they can become one in marriage for the purpose of loving one another and to have children, thereby creating a family unit as God had planned. However, in today’s fallen world, there are people in a same sex relationship that want to be allowed to be ‘married’ also. But many Christians believe that marriage is the joining of a man and a woman under God’s plan, and that a same sex relationship should perhaps be called a ‘union’ or a ‘partnership’ thereby sanctifying “marriage” between a man and a woman as created by God. Many of our laws and cultural values today are based on Christian ideals and “marriage” is one of those ideals set in place by God long ago. As a result, “marriage” between a man and a woman has been accepted and followed throughout the ages in many different nations and cultures. 
 
We read in Matthew chapter 19: Some Pharisees came to Jesus to test Him. They asked “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?” (Matthew 19:3). “Haven’t you read” Jesus replied “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’” (Matthew 19:4), “and said ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’” (Matthew 19:5). “So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let no man separate” (Matthew 19:6). “Why then” asked the Pharisees “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?” (Matthew 19:7). Jesus replied “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way in the beginning” (Matthew 19:8). “I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery” (Matthew 19:9). 
Thought for today: God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them (Genesis 1:27). 
Thought for the future: Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living (Genesis 3:20). Where will you spend your eternity?
