Song # 1594.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Acts we read in chapter 19 of the miracles that God did through Paul. Even handkerchiefs and aprons touched by Paul were taken to the sick and their illnesses were cured. 
God did extraordinary miracles through Paul (Acts 19:11), so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched Paul were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them (Acts 19:12). Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say “In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out” (Acts 19:13). Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this (Acts 19:14). One day, the evil spirit answered them “Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?” (Acts 19:15). Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all, and he gave them such a beating they ran out of the house bleeding (Acts 19:16). When this became known to the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus, they were all seized with fear, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honour (Acts 19:17). Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed their evil deeds (Acts 19:18). 
Thought for today: know Jesus - know salvation. No Jesus - no salvation. 
Thought for tomorrow: now is the time to invest in heaven. Where will you spend your eternity?

Song # 1588.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Acts we read in chapter 5 that the Apostles were arrested and put in the public jail by the high priest and his associates. 
The high priest and his associates had the Apostles arrested and put them in a public jail (Acts 5:17-18). But during the night an Angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out (Acts 5:19). “Go, stand in the temple courts” he said “and tell the people the full message of this new life” (Acts 5:20). At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people. When the high priest and his associates arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin - the full assembly of the elders of Israel - and sent to the jail for the Apostles (Acts 5:21). But on arriving at the jail the officers did not find them there. So they went back and reported (Acts 5:22). “We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors, but when we opened them, we found no-one inside” (Acts 5:23). On hearing this report, the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests were puzzled, wondering what would come of this (Acts 5:24). Then someone came and said “Look, the men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people” (Acts 5:25). At that, the captain went with his officers and brought the Apostles. They did not use force, because they feared that the people would stone them (Acts 5:26). Having brought the Apostles, they made them appear before the Sanhedrin to be questioned by the high priest (Acts 5:27). “We gave you strict orders not to teach in His name” he said. “Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood” (Acts 5:28). Peter and the other Apostles replied “We must obey God rather than men!” (Acts 5:29). “The God of our fathers raised Jesus from the dead - whom you had killed by hanging Him on a tree” (Acts 5:30). “God exalted Him to His own right hand as Prince and Saviour that He might give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel” (Acts 5:31). 
Thought for today: face your sins, repent, and put them behind you.

We will turn this responsibility over to them” (Acts 6:3), “and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word” (Acts 6:4). This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, also Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism (Acts 6:5). They presented these men to the Apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them (Acts 6:6). So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith (Acts 6:7). 
Thought for today: when you follow Jesus, you’re on the righteous path. 
Thought for the future: there is only one way to heaven, but that is all we need. Where will you spend your eternity?

Song # 1583.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In Paul’s first letter to the Church in Corinth, we read in chapter 12 of 1 Corinthians, that although we may all have different gifts from God, we all share the same Lord and the same Holy Spirit. 
You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols (1 Corinthians 12:2). Therefore I tell you that no-one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says “Jesus is cursed” and no-one can say “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3). There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:4). There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord (1 Corinthians 12:5). There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men (1 Corinthians 12:6). Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good (1 Corinthians 12:7). To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:8), to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:9), to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between Spirits, to another speaking in different tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues (1 Corinthians 12:10). All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and He gives them to each one, just as He determines (1 Corinthians 12:11). 
Thought for today: your life is God’s gift to you, make it your gift to God. 
 
Thought for the future: be in partnership with God, and your future is assured. Where will you spend your eternity?

Song # 1582.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Luke we read in chapters 19 and 20 that Jesus enters the temple area being used by traders as ‘a den of robbers’. 
Jesus entered the temple area and began driving out those who were selling. He said to them (Luke 19:45), “It is written ‘My house will be a house of prayer’ but you have made it ‘a den of robbers’ ” (Luke 19:46). Every day He was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill Him (Luke 19:47). Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on His words (Luke 19:48). One day as He was teaching the people in the temple courts, and preaching the Gospel, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, together with the elders, came up to Him (Luke 20:1). “Tell us by what authority you are doing these things” they said. “Who gave you this authority?” (Luke 20:2). Jesus replied “I will also ask you a question. Tell me” (Luke 20:3), “John’s baptism, was it from heaven, or from men?” (Luke 20:4). They discussed this among themselves and said “If we say ‘From heaven’ He will ask ‘Why didn’t you believe Him?’ ” (Luke 20:5). “But if we say ‘From men’ all the people will stone us, because they are persuaded that John was a prophet” (Luke 20:6). So they answered “We don’t know where it was from” (Luke 20:7). Jesus said “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things” (Luke 20:8). 
Thought for today: one of God’s greatest presents, is His presence in our life. 
 
Thought for the future: Jesus knows the way, follow Him for eternity. Where will you spend your eternity?

All the believers were one in heart and mind. No-one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had (Acts 4:32). With great power the Apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all (Acts 4:33). There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales (Acts 4:34), and put it at the Apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need (Acts 4:35). Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, who the Apostles called Barnabas (which means Son of Encouragement) (Acts 4:36), sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the Apostles’ feet (Acts 4:37). 
Thought for today: would you sell your property and share the profits with those in need? 
Thought for the future: the more we look to heaven, the less we need on earth. Where will you spend your eternity?

Peter and John raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord” they said “you made heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them” (Acts 4:23-24). “You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David ‘Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?’ ” (Acts 4:25). “ ‘The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the Lord and against His anointed One’ ” (Acts 4:26). “Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed” (Acts 4:27). “They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen” (Acts 4:28). “Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness” (Acts 4:29). “Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the Name of your Holy servant Jesus” (Acts 4:30). 
After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly (Acts 4:31). 
Thought for today: trust in God today, and prepare for your tomorrow. 
Thought for the future: God’s help is only a prayer away. Where will you spend your eternity?

#1579.1- The Believer's Prayer - (Acts 4:24-31)

Song # 1062.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. The Book of Exodus tells us in chapter 17 about the defeat of the Amalekites who attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. The Amalekites were a nomadic nation living mostly in the area south and east of the Dead Sea. They were enemies of Israel (NIV). 
The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim (Exodus 17:8). Moses said to Joshua “Choose some of our men and go out and fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands (Exodus 17:9). So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill (Exodus 17:10). As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning (Exodus 17:11). When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up, one on one side, one on the other, so that his hands remained steady till sunset (Exodus 17:12). So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword (Exodus 17:13). 
Then the Lord said to Moses “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven” (Exodus 17:14). Moses built an altar and called it “The Lord is my Banner” (Exodus 17:15). He said “For hands were lifted up to the throne of the Lord. The Lord will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation (Exodus 17:16). 
Thought for today: God can do extraordinary things through ordinary people. 
Thought for the future: there is only one way to heaven. Do you know the way?

The Book of Genesis tells us in chapter 11, that after the time of Noah, the people of the world had only one language, and the people proposed to build a tower to reach the heavens. 
Now the whole world had one language and a common speech (Genesis 11:1). As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar (that is Babylonia) and settled there (Genesis 11:2). They said to each other “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and bitumen for mortar (Genesis 11:3). Then they said “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth (Genesis 11:4). But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building (Genesis 11:5). The Lord said “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them” (Genesis 11:6). “Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other” (Genesis 11:7). So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city (Genesis 11:8). That is why it was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth (Genesis 11:9). 
Thought for today: enjoy the abundance of God’s gifts, but do not forget the Giver. 
Thought for the future: far better to be rich in God, than be rich without Him. Where will you spend your eternity?

Those who bow down on the roofs, to worship the starry host, those who bow down and swear by the Lord and who also swear by **Molech (Zephaniah 1:5). Those who turn back from following the Lord and neither seek the Lord nor enquire of Him (Zephaniah 1:6). Be silent before the Sovereign Lord, for the day of the Lord is near. (Zephaniah 1:7). On that day I will punish the princes and the king’s sons and all those clad in foreign clothes (Zephaniah 1:8). On that day I will punish all who fill the temple of their gods with violence and deceit (Zephaniah 1:9). On that day declares the Lord, a cry will go up (Zephaniah 1:10), and those who trade with silver will be ruined (Zephaniah 1:11). At that time I will punish those who are complacent, those who think the Lord will do nothing, either good or bad (Zephaniah 1:12).

** Molech: the national god of the Ammonites. Some Israelites offered human sacrifices to Molech in the Hinnom Valley near Jerusalem. (NIV) 
Thought for today: God speaks to those who listen, and listens to those who pray. 
Thought for the future: the richest people in the world are those who invest in heaven. Where will you spend your eternity?

He will raise a banner for the nations and gather the exiles of Israel, He will assemble the scattered people of Judah from the four quarters of the earth (Isaiah 11:12). Ephraim’s jealousy will vanish, and Judah’s enemies will be cut off. Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah, nor Judah hostile towards Ephraim (Isaiah 11:13). They will swoop down on the slopes of Philistia to the west, together they will plunder the people to the east. They will lay hands on Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites will be subject to them (Isaiah 11:14). The Lord will dry up the gulf of the Egyptian sea. Judah: occupied the hill country on the western side of the Dead Sea. 
Philistia: the Philistines lived west of Judah between the Dead Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, and were often at war with Israel. (NIV)

You have the words of eternal life” (John 6:68). “We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God” (John 6:69). Then Jesus replied “Have I not chosen you, the Twelve?
