Song # 1741.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. Before his death, Joshua spoke with the leaders reminding them of all the good promises that the Lord had given them. Joshua died at the age of a hundred and ten, and he was buried in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath Serah in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash. 
You know with all your heart and soul not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled, not one has failed (Joshua 23:14). But just as every good promise of the Lord your God has come true, so the Lord will bring you all the evil He has threatened, until He has destroyed you from this good land He has given you (Joshua 23:15). If you violate the covenant of the Lord your God, which He commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, the Lord’s anger will burn against you, and you will quickly perish from the good land He has given you (Joshua 23:16). 
Thought for today: trust in God today and prepare for your tomorrow. 
Thought for the future: no-one is more secure than those in God’s hands. Where will you spend your eternity?

Song # 1738.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Exodus we read in chapter 34 that Moses would speak in the presence of God on Mount Sinai, but when he returned to his people his face was radiant, and they were afraid of him. 
When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord (Exodus 34:29). When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him (Exodus 34:30). But Moses called to them, so Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him, and he spoke to them (Exodus 34:31). Afterwards all the Israelites came near him. And he gave them all the commands the Lord had given him on Mount Sinai (Exodus 34:32). When Moses finished speaking to them, he put a veil over his face (Exodus 34:33). But whenever he entered the Lord’s presence to speak with Him, he removed the veil until he came out. And when he came out and told the Israelites what had been commanded (Exodus 34:34), they saw that his face was radiant. Then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with the Lord (Exodus 34:35). 
Thought for today: with God, all things are possible. 
Thought for the future: why wish upon a star, when you can talk to God who made them. Where will you spend your eternity?

The Lord said to Moses “Tell the Israelites this ‘You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven’ (Exodus 20:22). ‘Do not make any gods to be alongside me, do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold’ (Exodus 20:23). ‘Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and cattle. #1740.1- Idols And Altars - (Exodus 20:22-25)

Jacob did not know at the time, but the man was God. As neither could overpower the other before sunrise, God touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that it was wrenched. And to this day the Israelites do not eat the tendon attached to the socket of the hip, because the socket of Jacob’s hip was touched near the tendon by God (Genesis 32:32). 
Jacob sent his family and possessions across the ford of Jabbok (Genesis 32:22-23). So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak (Genesis 32:24). When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man (Genesis 32:25). Then the man said “Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied “I will not let you go unless you bless me” (Genesis 32:26). The man asked him “What is your name?” “Jacob” he answered (Genesis 32:27). Then the man said “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel*, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome” (Genesis 32:28). Jacob said “Please tell me your name.” But the man replied “Why do you ask my name?” Then he blessed him there (Genesis 32:29). So Jacob called the place Peniel**, saying, “It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared” (Genesis 32:30). The sun rose above him as he passed Peniel and he was limping because of his hip (Genesis 32:31). In the Old Testament Book of Ecclesiastes he tells us that ‘everything is meaningless’ as he reflects on how short and contradictory human life is. He could not understand the ways of God, yet he encouraged people to work hard and enjoy the many blessings from God. He saw that both wise men and fools will die in due course, and wondered what benefit either would have over the other. 
Wisdom, madness and folly, what more can we do than what has already been done? (Ecclesiastes 2:12). Wisdom is better than folly, just as light is better than darkness (Ecclesiastes 2:13). The wise man has eyes in his head, while the fool walks in the darkness, but we come to realise that the same fate overtakes them both (Ecclesiastes 2:14). The fate of the fool will overtake him, what then do we gain from being wise (Ecclesiastes 2:15). For the wise man, like the fool, will not be long remembered, in days to come both will be forgotten. Like the fool, the wise man too must die (Ecclesiastes 2:16). So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind (Ecclesiastes 2:17). I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me (Ecclesiastes 2:18). And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will have control over all the work into which I have poured my effort and skill under the sun (Ecclesiastes 2:19). 
Thought for today: even though sometimes life may seem meaningless, look toward your future, everlasting life when you follow Jesus. 
Thought for the future: we may not see God’s hand, but we can trust His heart. Where will you spend your eternity?

Paul wrote in his second letter to Timothy that we need to be like a workman without shame, and avoid godless chatter with those who are ungodly, but gently instruct those who oppose the truth. 
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15). Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly (2 Timothy 2:16). Their teaching will spread like gangrene (2 Timothy 2:17), and wanders away from the truth (2 Timothy 2:18). The Lord knows those who are His, and, everyone who confesses the Name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness (2 Timothy 2:19). Flee from evil desires and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart (2 Timothy 2:22). Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels (2 Timothy 2:23). And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel, instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful (2 Timothy 2:24). Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth (2 Timothy 2:25). 
Thought for today: you can show your love for God, by showing your love for Him to others.

#1716.1- Workman Without Shame - (2 Timothy 2:15-25)

When men fall down, do they not get up? When a man turns away, does he not return? (Jeremiah 8:4). Why then have these people turned away? Why does Jerusalem always turn away? They cling to deceit. They refuse to return (Jeremiah 8:5). I have listened attentively, but they do not say what is right. No-one repents of his wickedness, saying “What have I done?” Each pursues his own course (Jeremiah 8:6). How can you say “We are wise, for we have the law of the Lord” when actually the lying pen of the scribes has handled it falsely? (Jeremiah 8:8). Since they have rejected the word of the Lord, what kind of wisdom do they have? (Jeremiah 8:9). From the least to the greatest, all are greedy for gain. Prophets and priests alike, all practise deceit (Jeremiah 8:10). “Peace, peace” they say, when there is no peace (Jeremiah 8:11). They have no shame at all. So they will fall among the fallen. They will be brought down when they are punished says the Lord (Jeremiah 8:12). 
Thought for today: enjoy the abundance of God’s gifts, but never forget the Giver. 
Thought for the future: one of God’s greatest presents, is His presence in our life. Where will you spend your eternity?

#1700.1- The Harvest Is Ripe - (Joel 3:12-16)

Because of His oath, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant (Hebrews 7:22). Now there have been many priests, but death prevented them from continuing in office (Hebrews 7:23), and because Jesus lives for ever, He has a permanent priesthood (Hebrews 7:24). Therefore Jesus is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them (Hebrews 7:25). Such a High Priest meets our needs, One who is blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, and exalted above the heavens (Hebrews 7:26). Unlike the other high priests, He does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for His own sins, and then for the sins of the people. Jesus sacrificed for their sins once for all when He offered Himself (Hebrews 7:27). For the law appoints as priests men who are weak, but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect for ever (Hebrews 7:28). 
Thought for today: the world may not love God, but God loves the world. 
Thought for the future: Jesus knows the way, so follow Him for eternity. Where will you spend your eternity?

#1684.1- Jesus Greater Than Moses - (Hebrews 3:1-6)

Song # 1681.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Hebrews we read in chapter 3 that the Holy Spirit tells us not to harden our hearts, if we hear the Lord’s voice, and not to be unbelievers like those Moses led out of Egypt and who turned their backs on God. 
So, as the Holy Spirit says “Today, if you hear His voice” (Hebrews 3:7), “do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert” (Hebrews 3:8), “where your fathers tested and tried me and for forty years saw what I did” (Hebrews 3:9). “That is why I was angry with that generation, and I said ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways’ ” (Hebrews 3:10). “So I declared on oath in anger ‘They shall never enter my rest’ ” (Hebrews 3:11). But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today’, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness (Hebrews 3:13). We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first (Hebrews 3:14). As has just been said “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion” (Hebrews 3:15). Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? (Hebrews 3:16). And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the desert? (Hebrews 3:17). And to whom did God swear that they would never enter His rest if not to those who disobeyed? (Hebrews 3:18). 
Thought for today: God tests our faith so we can trust in His faithfulness.

When Jesus came down from the mountain, a large crowd met Him (Luke 9:37). A man in the crowd called out “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child” (Luke 9:38). “A spirit seizes him and he suddenly screams. It throws him into convulsions, so that he foams at the mouth. It scarcely ever leaves him and is destroying him” (Luke 9:39). “I begged your disciples to drive it out, but they could not” (Luke 9:40). Jesus said to the man “Bring your son here” (Luke 9:41). Even while the boy was coming, the demon threw him to the ground in a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the evil spirit, healed the boy and gave him back to his father (Luke 9:42). And they were all amazed at the greatness of God. While everyone was marvelling at all that Jesus did, He said to His disciples (Luke 9:43), “Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you. The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men” (Luke 9:44). But they did not understand what this meant. It was hidden from them, so that they did not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask Him about it (Luke 9:45). 
Thought for today: the Lord can calm the storm, and give you peace. 
Thought for the future: a Christian’s inheritance is “forever” guaranteed. Where will you spend your eternity?

John saw four Angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree (Revelation 7:1). Then John saw another Angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four Angels who had been given the power to harm the land and sea (Revelation 7:2). “Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of God” (Revelation 7:3). Then John saw the Lamb before him, standing on Mount Zion, and with Him the 144,000 who had His name and His Father’s name written on their foreheads (Revelation 14:1). John heard a sound from heaven like that of harpists playing their harps (Revelation 14:2). And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No-one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth (Revelation 14:3). These are those who did not defile themselves and kept themselves pure, and they follow the Lamb wherever He goes (Revelation 14:4). 
Thought for today: Jesus knows the way to heaven, so follow Him for eternity.

These are the words of Him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What He opens no-one can shut, and what He shuts no-one can open (Revelation 3:7). He knows your deeds and has placed before you an open door that no-one can shut. He knows that you have little strength, yet you have kept His word and not denied His Name (Revelation 3:8). He will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars- He will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that the Lord has loved you (Revelation 3:9). Since you have kept His command to endure patiently, He will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth (Revelation 3:10). The Lord is coming soon. Hold onto what you have, so that no-one will take your crown (Revelation 3:11). Those who have faith, He will make a pillar in the temple of God. Never again will he leave it (Revelation 3:12).

One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the wound had been healed. The whole world was astonished and followed the beast (Revelation 13:3). Men worshipped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they worshipped the beast and asked “Who is like the beast. Who can make war against him?” (Revelation 13:4). The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority for forty two months (Revelation 13:5). He opened his mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander His name and His dwelling-place and those who live in heaven (Revelation 13:6). He was given power to make war against the Saints and to conquer them. And he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation (Revelation 13:7). All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast - all whose names have not been written in the Book of Life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world (Revelation 13:8). He who has an ear, let him hear (Revelation 13:9). If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity he will go. If anyone is to be killed with the sword, with the sword he will be killed. This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the Saints (Revelation 13:10). 
Thought for today: His love was shown when He came as a man. 
Thought for the future: Christ’s death gives us courage for today, and hope for tomorrow. Where will you spend your eternity?

This calls for patient endurance on the part of the Saints who obey God’s commandments and remain faithful to Jesus (Revelation 14:12).
